Like our Facebook PageThe importance of hydraulic excavators can never be undermined from any perspective, due to the role that they play in prepping construction sites. From digging hard soiled strata to breaking concrete and drilling holes to cutting steel laying gravel, paving breaking boulders, these heavy construction machines typically reduce the work time and workload of a traditional human workforce.
The very first few excavators were designed to act as mere shovels and had limited capabilities; never the less they paved the way for the booming construction industry at the turn of the 20th century. As the construction industry expanded, heavy machinery manufacturers started adding more features to the excavators such as power, agility, flexibility and mobility among others.
Nowadays, hydraulic excavators come in numerous shapes, sizes and capabilities.
The heavyweights of the construction industry such as Caterpillar offer construction companies a wide variety of excavator options that range from mini or compact excavators that weigh 930 kg with 13 HP of raw power to the CAT 6090 which weighs 979,990 kg with 4500 HP to power it on.
The size and the power output of excavators are critical considerations in order to choose the correct type of excavator hire to suit the required type of construction job. The entire scope of a construction project could be said to ‘rely’ or ‘depend’ heavily on the ‘prep’ work that excavators are assigned to as they are not only used to dig up the ground for new building construction but are also used to bring down old buildings and ‘clean up’ the entire site.
Other important elements about the excavator for construction projects are the fact that they not only reduce the total time needed for the project but also reduce the cost quite significantly. This is so because, it would take 7 well abled hard labour workers a total of 8 hours to clear up a 50ft by 50ft space full of large debris or hard soil, while a single excavator can do it in less than 2 hours.
Apart from that, it is safer to use excavators to bring down old property instead of using raw traditional human labour as it is quite a dangerous job. Another factor about the excavator is the fact that it is able to move large amounts of debris (which are usually heavy) from the site directly onto trucks that transport unwanted construction material away from the construction site.
The level of productivity offered by excavators often justifies the high price tag, however many companies who do not require machinery full time often prefer to hire an excavator for each job site throughout the duration of the contract. Either way, these heavy machines outlay is minimal compared to the huge productivity increase they provide. It is due to these incomparable reasons that construction companies often have them available or own in most case scenarios for their projects.
Some construction companies even offer excavation services as part of their service offering structure as part of their revenue channels due to the high ROI (Returns on Investments) that this niche service provides.
No matter how large or how small a construction project is, the likelihood that it would need some type of excavator to be present for the job to run smoothly is nothing less than 95 %.
